I am confused by all the emphasis put on the "artist mark" on the dolls necks behind the ear. Most of my dolls have it, but my very old Samantha, purchased directly from Pleasant Company in 1991 either doesn't have it or it is hiding under her wig. What is so important about this mark and what does it really indicate? When did the dolls stop bearing this mark? I just had an Addy's head replaced due to "silver eye" and her new head has the artist mark even though she just came home yesterday. I would appreciate learning whatever I can about this mark.
